ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has directed the federal and provincial government departments to be ready to protect people’s life and property in flood prone areas.
He issued the directives while addressing various gatherings in flood-hit areas of Chitral. The prime minister said that no inaction from any quarter should be witnessed in the relief and rescue activities.
He emphasised for mobilisation of necessary machinery and equipment to meet any emergency. He appreciated the role of Pakistan Army for immediately responding to the situation caused by rains and floods.
The prime minister announced Rs 500 million from the federal government to be equally matched by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government for relief work in Chitral.
He assured to provide all resources for the rehabilitation of flood-hit people and ensure reconstruction of roads, bridges and other infrastructure destroyed and damaged by the flash floods.
He also announced a compensation of five hundred thousand rupees for each family whose house has been completely destroyed. Compensation for partially damaged houses will be announced after damage assessment. He also announced to waive off agricultural loans in the flood affected areas.
