Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has laid the foundation stone of Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro Bus Service Project on Sunday. The project costing over forty-four billion rupees is being implemented as per vision of the Prime Minister and Chief Minister Punjab to provide international standard mass transit system to the twin cities. Federal and Provincial government would contribute fifty percent each of the total cost.
The project will benefit over 150,000 commuters travelling between the twin cities of Islamabad-Rawalpindi daily . Addressing the ground breaking ceremony in Rawalpindi Chief Minister Punjab Shehbaz Sharif said metro bus services is extension of Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif’s vision of motorways.
He said that Rawalpindi and Islamabad will become twin cities in real terms on completion of the project. He said state-of-the-art transportation facilities will be provided to people of twin cities through this project. He said those who criticized Metro Bus Project in Lahore now travel through the same bus service with pride.
