Securities Bill 2014 introduced in Senate

ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmad introduced ‘The Securities Bill 2014’ in the Senate here on Thursday.

The bill provides to amend and consolidate law for the regulation of the securities industry and protection of investors. The chair referred the Bill to the committee concerned of the House for consideration. The Senate resumed its session here on Thursday with Chairman Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari in the chair.

Earlier, the Senate began discussion on President’s address to both the Houses assembled on June 02 last year. The motion to this effect was moved by Leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq on October 21 last year.

Taking part in the debate, Taj Haider said that level playing field was not provided to all the parties in the general election 2013 that is why the country was facing a number of problems.

He was of the opinion that democracy is weakening, provincial autonomy is being taken back and economy is weakening. He said weakening of democracy is root of all the problems.

He alleged that 18th amendment is being rolled back. He stressed the need for elimination of terrorism and extremism. He said PPP agreed to the establishment of special trial courts under a collective wisdom. He urged Punjab Government to exploit resources of energy of the province.

Zahid Khan said peace in Afghanistan is important for Pakistan. He said war on terrorism is our own war and we have to win it. He stressed the need for completion of Munda Dam which would help generate electricity and save from flooding.

Khalida Parveen said issues of unemployment and price hike should be addressed on priority basis. She alleged that development funds of backward areas like Muzaffargarh are being spent in Central Punjab. She urged for early holding of local bodies elections to resolve the problems of the people at their door steps. She said that article 25-A of the constitution relating to Islamabad is not implemented.
