ISLAMABAD: The Senate was informed on Tuesday that over 7, 75, 000 gas connections were given to new domestic consumers over the last two years.
Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources Jam Kamal told the House during question hour that Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited is annually giving 300, 000 (three hundred thousand) and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited 96, 000 (ninety six thousand) gas connections.
He said government is pursuing a comprehensive strategy to enhance production of oil and gas in the country. He said a total of 27 discoveries were made against 169 licenses issued to different exploration companies over the last one year.
Jam Kamal further said that an oil and gas conference is also being organized this month to discuss the matters pertaining to this important sector. He said all the stakeholders including the provinces have been invited to attend this moot.
He also informed that oil and gas exploration has been expedited in different areas of Balochistan including Sui and Dera Bugti following the improvement of law and order situation.
Responding to a calling attention notice, Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Usman Ibrahim told the House that a committee has been constituted to look into the issue of regularization of contractual employees in government departments. He said the employees are being regularized on the recommendation of the committee.
The opposition staged a walk out from the house over the government’s LNG deal with Qatar. Kamil Ali Agha of PML (Q) regretted that the house was not taken into confidence on the matter. Later, the house was adjourned to meet again today (Wednesday).
