Senate: (Senate discusses enhancement of upper age limit for CSS examination)


ISLAMABAD: The Senate on Thursday started discussion on public petition regarding enhancement of upper age limit for CSS examination especially for the candidates belonging to Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and other under-developed areas.

Those who took part in the discussion were Sehar Kamran, Gian Chand, Osman Kakar, Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi, Abdul Qayyum, Mir Kabir Ahmad, Rubina Irfan, Dr Karim Ahmad Khawaja and Dr Ashok Kumar. They advocated for enhancement of upper age limit for CSS examination particularly for the candidates belonging to backward areas.

Winding up discussion, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House that the public petition with recommendations of the House should be sent to the government for appropriate action. He said there is no harm in enhancing the upper age limit for the CSS exams from 28 years to 30 years.

Leader of the House Raja Zafarul Haq said the age limit should be enhanced for all candidates without any discrimination. The chair disposed of the public petition in the light of the assurance given by the Minister of Shaikh Aftab Ahmad, expecting that the Federal Government shall immediately undertake necessary amendments in the law for this purpose.

Responding to a calling attention notice moved by Saleem Mandviwalla regarding decision of the government to close the Commercial Centres/Shops at 20:00 hour in Islamabad, Minister of State for Interior Mohammad Baligh ur Rehman told the House that it is a good decision and the government intends to carry it forward.

He said the Cabinet Committee on Energy has taken the decision that shops will be closed at 8 p.m., marriage Halls at 10 p.m. and restaurant at 11 p.m. and the government is making efforts to enforce this decision.

Earlier, the chair rejected an adjournment motion by Dr Jahanzeb Jamaldini and others to discuss the non-absorption of two doctors working in PIMS namely Dr Niaz Baloch and Dr Farooq Shah against the quota of their respective provinces in PIMS Islamabad. The chair said individual cases cannot be taken as adjournment motion. The House will again meet today (Friday) evening.
