Sports: (Nasir and Todd to play the final of President Gold Cup International Squash Championship)


ISLAMABAD: Nasir Iqbal and Todd Hamity reached the final of President Gold Cup International Squash Championship being played at Mushaf Squash Complex, Islamabad.

According to a press release issued here on Monday, the 1st Semi Final was a thrilling match between Omar Abdel Meguid and Nasir Iqbal. Omar dominated in the first game and easily won it with a game score of 11/6.

Nasir came back in the next game and won it with the game score 11/7. It was smooth sailing for Nasir in the third game in which he outclassed his opponent with the game score 11/4. Nasir booked his place in the final of the coveted trophy by wining the fourth game with the game score of 11/9. The match lasted for 57 minutes.

Dr Akhter Nawaz Ganjera, Director General Pakistan Sports Board was the chief guest of the match. Squash legends Jahangir Khan, Qamar Zaman and Jansher Khan also witnessed the match. The 2nd Semi Final was played between Egyptian Karim Al Fathi and American Todd Hamity.

Todd won the first game with the score 11/8. Todd also won the second game 11/2. Karim came back in the match by winning the third game with the score 11/6. In the fourth game Karim dominated his opponent from the start and also clinched it with the game score 11/5. The fifth game was easily won by Todd with the score 11/4.

The match lasted for 46 minutes. Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, Federal Minister for Inter Provincial Coordination was the Chief Guest at the occasion. Squash legends Jahangir Khan, Qamar Zaman and Jansher Khan also witnessed the match.
