Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 13% of those Pakistanis who make New Year’s resolutions, resolved to not repeat past mistakes during the new year.

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women who said that they make New Year’s resolutions, from across the four provinces was asked, “What did you resolve to do at the beginning of this year?” In response to this question, 13% respondents said they resolved to not repeat past mistakes, 12% wanted to do good things during the new year, 9% wanted to do more hard work, and 3% wanted to start praying and reciting the Holy Quran, while 3% had resolved to serve the nation.

The same question was also asked during previous years and the results have been somewhat varied. In 2011, 11% respondents said they resolved to not repeat past mistakes, 10% wanted to do good things during the new year, 5% wanted to do more hard work, and 11% wanted to start praying and reciting the Holy Quran, while 3% had resolved to serve the nation. In 2012, 16% respondents said they resolved to not repeat past mistakes.

17% wanted to do good things during the new year, 10% wanted to do more hard work, and 12% wanted to start praying and reciting the Holy Quran, while 7% had resolved to serve the nation In 2013, 14% respondents said they resolved to not repeat past mistakes, 16% wanted to do good things during the new year, 5% wanted to do more hard work, and 9% wanted to start praying and reciting the Holy Quran.

The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.

The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 314 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during 29 December 2014 –5 January 2015. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
