Survey (Overwhelming majority (86%) of urbanite Pakistanis have not attended any public engagement activity organized by the city during the last year, Poll)


Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 86% urbanite Pakistanis said they have not attended any public engagement activity organized by the city; 12% urbanite Pakistanis have attended such activities. (This press release is Part 1 of a 3-part series on Urban Life: Perceptions of Urbanite Pakistanis)

A nationally representative sample of adult men and women living in urban areas, from across the four provinces was asked, In the past 12 months, have you attended a public engagement activity put on by the city such as a public meeting, open house or workshop? In response to this question, 12% respondents said they have attended a public engagement activity put on by the city during the past 12 months, while 86% respondents said they have not attended any such public engagement activity and 2% respondents did not respond.

Bilal Gilani, Executive Director at Gallup Pakistan, adds: With the announcement of local government elections in Pakistan, Gallup Pakistan plans to release a series of press releases on views of city dwellers in Pakistan and their perceptions about current and future public amenities. We hope that these findings would help public policy academics.

The study was released by Gilani Research Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 459 men and women in urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during March 02- March 09, 2015. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
