New York: The U N Security Council has welcomed the recently held direct talks between the Afghan government and Taliban representatives in Pakistan.
In a statement in New York, the 15-member Council termed the move a step towards peace and reconciliation in the region.
The Council appreciated the constructive role played by Pakistan, China and the United States for encouraging an inclusive Afghan- led and Afghan-owned dialogue.
It hoped that this direct interaction would encourage all the parties to continue building on their efforts made so far to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan.
All the Members of the UN Security Council reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Afghanistan on its path towards peace, reconciliation, democracy and development.
