Islamabad: The United States has welcomed Pakistan’s to have good ties with newly elected Afghan leadership for regional peace, satiability and prosperity.
These thoughts were expressed by the US Ambassador in Pakistan Richard Olson in his address to the students at Center of International Peace and Stability, NUST in Islamabad on Wednesday.
He said since the new government has installed in Afghanistan, Pakistan has taken encouraging steps, including the Prime Minister’s Advisor on National Security Sartaj Aziz and Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif’s visits to Kabul and signing of CASA-1000 agreement.
The ambassador said both Pakistan and United States have played crucial role for successful political transition in Afghanistan, and to achieve the objective of prosperity and regional stability.
Talking about cross border incidents, Richard Olson urged the governments of both countries to maintain communication. He said political transition has created an opportunity to revitalize the cooperation between Pakistan, Afghanistan and United States.
He said United States’ relations with Islamabad and Kabul are vital and it will not repeat its mistakes of the past.
Richard Olson said United States assistance to Pakistan will not end, but it will be transformed into different spheres including trade, energy, education, health and social development.
The ambassador also underlined the importance of better Pakistan-India ties as the goal of regional stability and prosperity cannot be materialized without having cordial relations between the two countries.
He reiterated that the United States supports rule of law and the constitution.He said democratization of institutions is essential both in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
