ISLAMABAD: As many as 16 people have died and several others injured in roof collapse and rain related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
According to reports, four persons died and nine injured due to land sliding in Shangla. Flood water washed away one child. Two persons washed away by flood water in Swat.
One person each died in Chitral, Malakand, Dir Upper, Charsadda and Mansehra. A number of houses were also damaged and bridges swept away by flood water in different parts of the province.
Four members of a family have been killed and three injured in Chilas when roof of their house collapsed in Jichen. The communication link has been disconnected due to torrential rain in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Heavy land sliding has damaged Karakorum Highway between Gilgit and Chilas. In Ghizer, eight residential houses have been collapsed due to landslides in Sherqila village.
A large number of irrigation water channels and hydel power water channels have been damaged and electric supply disrupted.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has expressed grief over the loss of human lives in rain and flood related incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He has directed National Disaster Management Authority and the concerned departments to expedite rescue and relief operation in affected areas. He also directed for provision of food, shelter and other facilities to the affected people.
