Islamabad: World Book and Copyright Day will be marked on April 23 across the world including Pakistan to pay a world-wide tribute to books and authors for their contributions toward promotion of literature.
Different organizations will mark the day with literary activities to promote book reading culture and remember those who have made outstanding contributions to social and cultural progress. World Book and Copyright Day help increase people’s understanding and adherence to copyright laws.
The 23rd of April is significant for the world of literature because it was on this day in 1616 that Cervantes Saavedra, William Shakespeare, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega died. A resolution adopted on this day in 1995 by the 28th session on the General Conference of UNESCO, seeks to promote reading, publishing and the protection of intellectual property through copyright.
