45% Pakistanis believe prize bonds/lottery are not allowed in Islam, Poll


Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 45% Pakistanis believe prize bonds/lottery are not allowed in Islam.

A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “In your opinion, from an Islamic perspective are things like prize bond/lottery allowed or not allowed?” Responding to this, 22% believed is allowed whereas 45% deemed it not allowed in Islam. 33% did not respond.

The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 1695 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Dec 23, 2013 – Dec 30, 2013.

Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
