Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 69% Pakistanis are of the opinion that when there is limited opportunity for employment, men should be given preference over women for jobs.
A nationally representative sample of adult men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Please tell us, how much do you agree or disagree with the following statement: When there is limited opportunity for employment, men should be given preference over women for jobs?” Responding to this, 40% said they completely agreed, 29% said they somewhat agreed and 16% replied they neither agreed nor disagreed.
7% of the respondents mentioned they somewhat disagreed compared to 4% who said they completely disagreed. 4% did not respond.
The study was released by Gilani Foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International.
The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2619 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during Feb 10, 2014 – Feb 17, 2014. Error margin is estimated to be approximately ± 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
