Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, 75% Pakistanis think Iqbal Day should be a public holiday; 85% believe that it is important to celebrate this day with fervour.
A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “Some people think that Iqbal Day should be a public holiday while others think it should not be a public holiday. What is your opinion?” Responding to this, 75% said it should be a holiday while 17% negated this opinion. 8% did not respond.
The individuals were further asked: “Some people are of the opinion that Iqbal Day should be celebrated with fervour while others are of the opinion that it is not necessary to celebrate Iqbal Day with such fervour.
In your opinion, how important is celebrating Iqbal Day?” In response, 48% claimed to be very important followed by 37% felt it is somewhat important. 12% thought it is somewhat unimportant while 2% opined it very unimportant to celebrate Iqbal Day. 1% did not respond.
