Islamabad: Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFSR) assured his Ministry’s full cooperation in meeting the shortage of wheat and flour in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK). The assurance was given to a delegation of Pakistan Flour Mills Association, KPK Branch, when the latter called on the Federal Secretary here in Islamabad.
The delegation apprised the Secretary about the rising rates of wheat and flour in KPK which was to a greater extent because of the hoarding of the commodity. The delegation also said that hoarders and profiteers of this basic commodity have jacked up its rates which were a worrisome development for consumers of KPK.
Expressing concern over surging rates of this vital kitchen item, the Secretary assured the delegation of MNFSR’s cooperation in meeting the wheat and flour needs of the province.
The Federal Secretary stated that there were sufficient stocks of wheat in the country and there was no justification for the price-hike of wheat flour. He assured the delegation that Ministry will consider releasing sufficient wheat stocks to KPK to ensure availability of flour to the common consumers at lower rate.
