Islamabad: According to a Gilani Research Foundation Survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan, majority of Pakistanis (58%) express sad feelings about the assassination of former PM Benazir Bhutto. 32% hold Benazir’s family/close companions to be responsible for her demise.
A nationally representative sample of men and women, from across the four provinces was asked “In the recent days, 6th death anniversary of Benazir Bhutto was observed who was killed in a suicide bomb attack at Rawalpindi in 2007. How do you feel about this incident?” Responding to this, 24% Adult Pakistanis feel very sad while 34% feel sad. 32% expressed mixed feelings whereas 6% do not feel sad at all. 4% did not respond.
The sampled population was further asked: “If someone asks your opinion regarding who was responsible for murder of Benazir, from the given list who would you find most responsible?” In response, America and the Musharraf government were blamed equally at 25%. 8% named India whereas 32% believed that Benazir’s close companions/family members were responsible for her sad demise. 9% feared the connection with the Taliban while 1% did not respond.
