Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday visited the earthquake-hit area of Awaran and reviewed the ongoing reconstruction and rehabilitation measures being taken in the wake of the natural calamity.
The Prime Minister flew from Karachi to Balochistan’s Awaran area‚ which was badly affected by the devastating earthquake last month.
Interior Minister‚ Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan‚ Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Resources‚ Jam Kamal and Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) ‚ Maj. Gen Saeed Aleem accompanied the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister was briefed about the relief activities being carried out for the earthquake victims. Earlier‚ Chief Minister Balochistan Dr Abdul Malik Baloch received the Prime Minister on his arrival.
Senator Mir Hasil Bizenjo and Sardar Sanaullah Zehri were also present on the occasion. According to data available with the NDMA‚ 386 persons were killed while 816 were injured in the earthquake. Also‚ 32‚638 houses were completely destructed and 14118 were partially damaged.
The NDMA is coordinating the provision of aircraft from armed forces for the life saving responses‚ medical evacuations and transportation of relief goods from logistic hubs to affected areas.
