President pledges affordable education to all children

Islamabad: President Mamnoon Hussain has said that the government is fully cognizant of its responsibility towards protecting the rights of children and ensuring their welfare.

Addressing a function in connection with Universal Children’s Day in Islamabad on Wednesday‚ he expressed the government’s resolve to provide easy and affordable education to all the children across the country.

Emphasizing upon the welfare of the young generation‚ the president said several measures have been taken on the part of the government to improve the lot of youth. We are committed to improve the health and education coverage through effective policy interventions.

Voicing concerns over the cases of violence and abuse against children‚ Mamnoon Hussain said it is our collective responsibility to ensure them necessary opportunities and safeguards to realize their true potential.

He said our great religion Islam and constitution provides protection to the rights of children and Pakistan is committed to fulfil its obligations towards their rights according to the UN conventions to achieve the millennium development goals.

The president particularly underlined the need for focusing on education of girls saying their education is imperative to build future generations.

Speaking on the occasion‚ Secretary Law Barrister Zafarullah said several laws are being formulated for the rights and welfare of children. He said the 18th amendment also promises free and compulsory education to all children.

On the occasion‚ school children enthralled the audience through their songs‚ speeches and tableaus.
