Islamabad: The Supreme Court (SC) has allowed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to issue new schedule for Local Bodies elections in Sindh and Punjab.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Tasadduq Hussain Jilani heard the case of Local Bodies elections on Monday. The hearing of the case has been adjourned till the first week of February.
Talking to newsmen‚ Secretary Election Commission Ishtiak Ahmed said the Supreme Court has authorized to change the schedule announced earlier. He adds that the previous schedule stands cancelled. He said new schedule will be issued after amendments in laws and completion of the process of delimitations. Secretary Election Commission said new dates will be announced after consultations with the governments of Punjab and Sindh. He said that ballot papers will not go to waste as there will be no interminable delay in local bodies’ polls.
