KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday expressed extreme annoyance over Mirpur Sakro police for not carrying out fair and honest probe into kidnapping of a woman and her seven-years-old daughter, allegedly kidnapped by the local leaders of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) in Thatta.
A division bench of SHC headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah ordered SSP Thatta to appoint an honest officer not below the rank of SP to investigate into kidnapping case.
Two-judge bench was seized with the hearing of petition filed by Razia Sultana, who submitted that former PPP MPA Ghulam Qadir Palejo in connivance with the Mirpur Sakro police had attacked her family houses and took hostage seven women, including the petitioner, on November 29. Later, five women were released but her daughter Shahnaz and granddaughter Sanya were taken somewhere else.
Sultana alleged that Palejo had usurped the family’s 31 acres farmland through manipulation of land records destroyed in arson attacks after the assassination of Benazir Bhutto in 2007. She submitted that influential persons were harassing the petitioner and her family. Despite the registration of a case, no progress has been made out for the recovery of the hostages.
The bench became visibly irked when investigation officer of the case make contradictory statements as saying that on complaint of local PPP leader, police along with revenue officers went to 31-acre disputed farmland and removed the construction including house of petitioner. Later, he placed before the court the pictures of land, submitting that there was no construction on the land.
The two-judge bench observed that statements appeared to be biased and dishonesty of IO to save the accused person. It directed provincial police chief to take action against IO for grass misconduct.
The petitioner informed the court that abducted woman and her daughter were left outside her house by the accused. They were severely tortured by kidnappers.
The bench directed SHO of Mirpur Sakro police station to record the statement of the abductees and take action against accused person.
