KARACHI: Ameer, Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has welcomed the decisions of the All Parties Conference APC and described these as a step in the right direction.
He was addressing a crowded press conference at Idara-e-Noor Haq here on Tuesday. JI General Secretary Karachi Naseem Siddiqui, Naib Nazim and JI Karachi Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, were also present on the occasion.
JI Ameer called for immediately pulling out of the war on terror, as this war not our war, but the war of the US. He said there was need for evolving an effective strategy to tackle the issue of drones attacks, and said there should not be hollow talks in this respect. Hasan said that Pakistan was facing serious threats from India and the government must keep a vigilant eye on India and its allies.
He stressed that the Pakistan government must be on driving seat during discussions with Taliban and the agencies and other related institutions should coordinate with the civil government. The government should also refrain from using power against Taliban, he added.
The JI Ameer said that India is an open enemy of Pakistan, it had been continuing atrocities on the people of Kashmir, violating the Line of Control LoC and also committing water aggression against this country.
“It is high time to review the relations with United States as it will withdraw its forces from Afghanistan in 2014, but would try to keep India as watchdog in the Continent”, he added. Hasan also welcomed the release of Afghan Taliban. He said that Pakistan had created new enemies by not supporting Afghans and by providing logistic support to United States in Afghanistan. Now was the time that Pakistan converted its new enemies into friends.
Citing the example of Britain, Syed Munawar Hasan said that the United Kingdom had used military power against the Irish Republican Army, but eventually, it adopted the path of dialogue with the same force. The JI Chief repeated his demand that the Army Chief should inform the nation about the outcome of the military operations in Swat, Buner, South Waziristan and adjacent areas.
To a query, JI Chief said that fruitful and result oriented dialogue should also be held with India.
