Jordanian King, Tajikistan president discuss latest developments

Amman (OIC-UNA) � Jordanian King Abdullah II and Tajikistan’s President Emomali Rahmon discussed about the means to forge closer cooperation between the two countries in various fields as well as the latest regional and international developments.

The talks which took placeat Al-Husainiyah Palace here on Sunday also dealt with developments related to Jerusalem following the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the US embassy to the city, Petra reported.

The two sides affirmed the need for intensifying Arab, Islamic and international efforts to protect the rights of the Palestinians in the city, that is key to achieving peace and stability in the region.

During the talks, which were attended by Prime Minister Hani Al-Mulki and senior officials from both countries, the Tajik president voiced his country’s support to Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah, the custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, in its efforts to protect the holy city and its historical identity.

The discussions also dealt with regional and international efforts to fight terrorism within a holistic approach. The King said that the visit of President Rahmon to Jordan would contribute to developing ties between the two countries, adding that both sides discussed cooperation in the political, security and military, trade and industrial fields.

During the meeting, the Jordanian King pointed to the challenges facing Islam as well as to the current challenges facing in Jerusalem, noting that “these challenges constitute an opportunity for our peoples to boost ties and cooperate to provide support.”

For his part, the Tajik president said his country was willing to strengthen cooperation with Jordan and thanked the King for the invitation extended to him to visit the Kingdom.

He also pointed to opportunities available to cooperate in the economic, trade, industrial, pharmaceuticals, education, science, healthcare, sports, and tourism fields.

President Rahmon voiced his country’s keenness to enhance cooperation with Jordan, especially in the security field.

Following the expanded talks, the King and President Rahmon witnessed the signing of two cooperation agreements between the two countries to enhance and protect mutual investments as well as to avoid dual taxation as well as tax evasion.

The agreement on investments was signed by State Minister for Investment Affairs Muhannad Shihadah and Qahrozoda Fayziddin Sattor, Chairman of the State Committee on Investments and State Property Management of Tajikistan.

The agreement on preventing dual taxation was signed by Finance Minister Omar Malhas and Tajik Finance Minister Qurboniyon Abdusalom Karim.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Adel Tweisi also signed with the Tajik Education Minister Said Nuriddin Said a Memorandum of Understanding in the higher education and scientific research.
