Karachi: Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) Sindh on Wednesday organized first aid training for journalists in connection with the World Red Cross Red Crescent Day at Karachi Press Club (KPC).
The training was attended by more than 100 journalists, including cameramen, health & crime reporters and office-bearers of KPC where they were taught how to save lives in emergency situations. This was the third time Red Crescent has organized first aid training for journalists at KPC.
Pakistan Red Crescent emergency response service has come to play a crucial role in saving lives. The service provided throughout most of the country uses fully equipped ambulances staffed by paramedical assistants and first-aid workers. It became clear that the need for such first-aid training among journalists, particularly cameramen and crime reporters.
Provincial Media Officer of Red Crescent Aftab Madni in his welcome address emphasized the importance of the subject and said that the accidents, bomb blasts and other emergencies were frequent, and journalists are generally the first to arrive at the scene. If they know the basics of first aid, they can save many lives while also protecting themselves.
Training Coordinator of Red Crescent Dr Rizwana Wasif said that first aid training course in KPC is organized to learn simple skills which could make all the difference if an emergency happened on their doorstep. She said training course taken just few hours but it given participants the knowledge and confidence to become lifesavers if a colleague, friend or family member falls ill or is injured, and they are called upon to help.
She said course covered common first aid scenarios including what to do if someone is choking, unconscious or bleeding, and how to treat a burn or fracture. She said training will also help participants spot the warning signs of a heart attack or stroke, and give them the tools to step in and act.
The first aid training is very important for media practitioners whether they are in field or at home. PRCS Management thanked to KPC administration and invites all media organizations to collaboratively organize full fledge first aid training for journalists and their staff.
President Karachi Press Club Imtiaz Khan Faran, Secretary Aamir Latif and Shams Kerio appreciated the efforts of Sindh Red Crescent for organizing first aid training for journalists.
All participants and management of Karachi Press Club were awarded participation certificates and first aid boxes.
