KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 103 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 237800 fine for selling commodities above government rates.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Orangi, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Shah Faisal, Model Colony, Bin Qasim and Korangi.
In the crackdown, 61 milkmen, 15 shopkeepers of general commodities, 19 chicken sellers, five vegetable sellers and three fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices, while one person was sent to jail for continuous violation of official rates.
