KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 108 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 225500 fine for selling commodities above government rates.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Civil Line, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Orangi Town, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Liaquatabad, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, and Model Colony.
In the crackdown, 57 milkmen, 20 shopkeepers of general commodities, 27 chicken sellers and four vegetable sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
