1,607,129 vehicles challaned this year


KARACHI: Karachi Traffic Police Department on Tuesday issued its progressive report from January 1 to November 9, 2015 that says at least 1,607,129 vehicles were challaned for violation of traffic rule, 1,2591 drivers arrested for carrying passengers on rooftops of their vehicles, and plying banned qingqis.

It further said that 93,014 vehicles were impounded on different types of traffic law violations, while 3520 fitness certificates of unfit vehicles were suspended in the metropolis.

Talking to PPI, DIG Traffic Dr Amir Ahmed Shaikh said that they had no aim to increase government’s revenue through imposing challans but they are responsible to punish the traffic law violators who are behind the traffic jams and accidents in the city. He said that their first priority is to regulate traffic in smooth way so that citizens could be benefited.
