KARACHI: Inspector General Police Sindh Iqbal Mehmood on Monday said that police have been monitoring law and order situation in the city with CCTV cameras through command and control centre in Central Police Office.
Addressing a meeting of National Management Course delegation at Central Police Office Karachi, he said that Sindh police had arrested 53,633 criminals and abolished 1308 groups of criminals in province.
Mehmood said that police had been monitoring 164 sensitive areas through 664 CCTV cameras in the city and 100 police mobiles were constantly patrolling which were connected with command and control centre.
Mehmood briefed that from 01 January 2013 to 20 March 2014, police had conducted 3,701 raids in different limits of province and captured 53,633 criminals including 84 terrorists, 178 extortionist, 220 kidnappers, 43,637 absconders, 6,550 offenders and 2,964 other criminals.
He said that 1,903 kilograms explosives, 45 bombs, 17 suicide bomb jackets, eight improvised explosive device (IEDs),571 hand grenades, 22 rocket launchers with rockets, 462 Kalashnikovs, 1,336 short guns, 12,321 pistols, six SMGs and one anti-air craft gun were also recovered from arrested accused possession.
