Karachi: Around 165 posts of specialist doctors are lying vacant in different districts of Sindh province since past several years and Health Department Sindh has failed to recruit this staff to fulfill the shortage of medical employees in province.
A reliable source in health department on condition of anonymity informed that around 165 posts of specialist doctors are lying vacant in different healthcare institutions run by health department Sindh.
Sources said 20 posts of anesthesiologists, four cardiologist, 15 chest specialists, 10 dermatologists, 15 ophthalmologists, 15 gynaecologists, four orthopaedic surgeons, 12 pediatricians, 12 pathologists, 10 physicians, three psychiatrists, eight radiologists, 12 surgeons, six post of urologists and other were lying vacant in different district of province.
Similarly there is acute shortage of neurologists in province and most seats are lying vacant in different tertiary care hospitals in province. They said shortage of neurologists creates problems to patients as only one neurologist is available for every 48,000 to 60,000 patients in the province.
Sources said these vacancies were lying vacant in different government institutions since last many years after the retirement senior doctors and some shifted in other countries. They said these vacancies would be fulfilled under 60 percent rural and 40 percent urban quota system. The shortage of doctors and non-serious attitude of provincial government have increased miseries of poor patients.
Another official said Health Department Sindh has forwarded list to Sindh Public Service Commission for recruitment of doctors on vacant posts.
