KARACHI: In a crackdown on profiteers, 101 shopkeepers were charged with Rs145500 fine for selling commodities on above rate than fixed by the city administration.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at rates fixed by the administration.
He further said that city administration has focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Korangi, Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Hyderi, New Karachi, North Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Jamshed Quarters, Ferozabad and Saddar.
In the crackdown, 52 milkmen, 11 shopkeepers of general commodities, 36 chicken sellers and 02 meat sellers have been fined on selling essential items on excessive prices, while, 02 persons were sent to jail for selling milk on excessive rate.
