2200 students receive degrees in DUHS convocation

KARACHI: Dow University Health Sciences (DUHS) organized its sixth convocation to confer degrees, gold medals and shields to over 2,200 graduates belonging to different disciplines at Ojha Campus of Dow University.

The degrees were conferred upon the graduates of MBBS, BDS, Nursing and Medical Technology and other postgraduates of various disciplines including M. Phil, Masters in Dental Surgery, Masters in Health Professional Education, Masters in Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Masters in Business Administration and MSc Diabetes and Endocrinology for the year 2008-09.

The convocation ceremony began with arrival of the academic procession. After national anthem, Prof Masood Hameed Khan, Vice Chancellor, DUHS declared the convocation open.

Prof Mohammad Masroor, Chairman of Organization Committee & Pro-Vice Chancellor, DUHS, said that convocation is a memorable day in the life of students and their parent.

Sardar Yaseen Malik in his address stressed that graduates must realize that the profession they have chosen demands services to the humanity, irrespective of creed color or cast. He congratulated the graduates and postgraduates students and their parents and hoped that the passing out graduates will serve the nation with dedication and acquire success in their future endeavors.

Prof Masood Hameed Khan recounted the progress of the University since its inception. He highlighted the developments of the university since its inception. He informed that since the establishment of the university, it has produced 7382 undergraduates and 1190 postgraduate students in all specialty of medical and allied sciences. He also informed about various course, diploma program at Dow University.

He said that the vision and mission of DUHS is focused on three domains that include academic excellence, human resource development and community healthcare. The University since its inception has been aiming to provide maximum possible health services to the community through various ways. He congratulated the young graduates and their parents for acquiring the degree with their continuous hard work.

Earlier, Sardar Yaseen Malik along-with Prof Masood Hameed Khan distributed gold medals, certificates and shields among the honour holders.

A large number of dignitaries, academic council members, professors, chairmans, HoDs, professors, lecturers, physicians, parents and students attended the convocation.
