KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 32 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 104000 fine for selling commodities above government rates.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Garden, SITE, Baldia, Orangi, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Shah Faisal and some areas of district Central and East.
In the crackdown, 11 milkmen, 11 shopkeepers of general commodities, six chicken sellers, one vegetable seller and one meat seller were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
