KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 33 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 71,000 fine for selling commodities above government rates.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Garden, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Model Colony, Murad Memon Goth, Shah Faisal, Aram Bagh, Jamshed Quarters, Gulzar-e-Hijri, Orangi Town, Baldia Town, Landhi and Korangi.
In the crackdown, 11 milkmen, two shopkeepers of general commodities, nine chicken sellers, eight vegetable sellers and three fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
