40% Karachi markets face 4-8 hours load shedding

KARACHI: President All Karachi Tajir Ittehad Atiq Mir on Tuesday showed concern over increase in electricity load shedding in different markets of Karachi as saying that increase in load shedding hours before summer is not a good sign.

Talking to PPI, he said: “Traders face Rs 700-800 million losses when electricity load shedding is carried out in 60% Karachi markets.” He said that currently, 60% markets in the city enjoy exemption from load shedding but during last few days, K Electric had increased load shedding hours in some markets which showed that the situation would be worst in the summer.

He said that K Electric had exempted those areas from load shedding where there were no line losses and billing problems but this was also linked with smooth gas supply, so government should ensure provision of full gas quota to K Electric.

To a question, he said that currently, 40% Karachi markets are facing 4-8 hours load shedding daily during their working hours. He hoped that the situation would be better during summers than last year.
