KARACHI: At least 41,531 hepatitis cases were reported across the Sindh province in the year 2014 at 55 diagnostic centers operating in province under Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programme Sindh (Chief Minister Initiatives), PPI learned on Thursday.
According to the data revealed by Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programme (Chief Minister Initiatives) 41,531 new hepatitis cases (Hepatitis B+ C+D) were reported throughout the province at diagnostic centers providing screening, vaccination, treatment and preventive educations facilities to hepatitis patients in the year 2014.
Out of 41,531 cases reported in Sindh, 9,748 cases were reported from Karachi, 3,144 from Hyderabad, 464 in Matiari, 914 in Badin, 276 in Tharparkar, 604 in Tando Mohammad Khan, 1530 in Dadu, 1427 in Jamshoro, 3410 in Larkana,1230 in Kambar & Shahdadkot, 832 in Sukkur, 2383 in Khairpur, 687 in Tando Allahyar, 809 in Thatta, 2796 in Ghotki and 402 in Kashmore & Kandhkot.
The report further stated that 2347 cases were detected from Jacobabad, 1417 in Shikarpur, 2293 in Sanghar, 851 in Mirpurkhas, 601 in Umerkot, 1193 in Naushero Feroz and 2173 in Shaheed Benazirabad.
Approximately, 27531 hepatitis (Hepatitis B+ C+D) patients are under treatment in various diagnostic centers in the province. A total 147,532 patients has already completed their treatment. Hepatitis Prevention & Control Programme Sindh has registered 164,227 Hepatitis C Virus (HCV), 24,905 Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and 5138 Hepatitis D Virus (HDV) cases since the inception of program.
The number of patients under treatment at Province (Pegasys= 3, 233, Pegaferon=682, Peginteron=1,469) total 5,384, while patients treated by (Health Foundation=2093+SESSI=359+SIUT Karachi=438) total 2,890. About 1887 jail inmates were diagnosed hepatitis B +C.
