KARACHI: In a crackdown against profiteers, 44 shopkeepers were charged with Rs 55500 fine for selling commodities above government rates.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that the campaign launched against profiteers would continue till they ensured that the commodities were sold at fixed rates.
He further said that city administration had focused those areas where complaints against price hike were received. These areas included Saddar, Garden, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Model Colony and Korangi.
In the crackdown, 22 milkmen, one shopkeeper of general commodities, three chicken sellers, four vegetable sellers, 13 flour sellers and one fruit sellers were fined for selling essential items at excessive prices.
