KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Saturday that strict measures are under way for get people rid of profiteers. He said in ongoing raids 224 profiteers were challaned and they were fined Rs 3372300 while 32 were sent to jail in the month of October.
He said intensive crackdown is under way by additional commissioner, assistant commissioners, and mukhtiarkars against hoarders, profiteers, adulterers and person who weight less. In this regard, 1129 milk sellers were challaned and they were fined of Rs 88500, 156 fruit sellers were fined Rs 20400, 270 vegetable sellers were fined Rs 271400, and 4 butchers fined Rs 13400.
Commissioner Karachi said raids were conducted in different markets of city and Rs 90000 were fined to milk shops for selling fresh milk above the government rates.
