KARACHI: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui has said that all the formalities should be fulfilled to get Karachi Zoo enlisted in international zoos and all the deficiencies would be removed in this regard to make it attractive and convenient for local as well as international visitors.
He said this while addressing a meeting in Karachi Zoo with advisory committee established for the betterment of Karachi Zoo, Aquarium and Safari Park.
Director Local Government Ms Robina Asif, Senior Director CSR Rehan Khan, Director Planning Development and Environment Syed Muhammed Shakib, Director Zoo Muhammed Faheem Khan, Director Safari Park Mughera Qadri and other relevant officers were also present on the occasion.
The commissioner said that complete record of birth and death of animals should be maintained in Karachi Zoo and effective steps should be taken for the safety and security of the animals from death.
“Karachi Zoo is a national asset in the city and its security was a duty of all the citizens. Birds and animals are like children who need special care. The government wants to get the zoo enlisted among international zoos,” he said.
Siddiqui said that university students should get benefit from the animals for their thesis. He said the budget for the zoo should be separated from other budgets.
He said hopefully with the efforts of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation officers that task could be achieved with not much difficulty. Animal and monkey shows would also be held in the zoo for kids and their parents.
The commissioner said that there was a need of improvement in museum and it could be named after a person provided that he cooperated in this regard.
The meeting was informed that chief minister Sindh had promised providing rhinoceros, sea horse and giraffe after which it would be able to get enlisted among international zoos.
Siddiqui directed the veterinary department to give the confiscated meat from the city to the animals in the zoo after getting it medically checked and determining its quality.
