Administrator directs for constructing Empress Mall, start shops’ balloting


KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Saqib Ahmed Soomro has directed concerned officials to conduct balloting of shops of Empress Mall, formerly Shahabuddin Market, within a week and hand over the auctioned shops to the owners.

He said the construction work of market should begin within four days. A high-level committee was also established to give its suggestions about the usage of 160 shops and 88 offices of KMC Lines Area Parking Plaza within a week.

He said while addressing a meeting on Thursday which was attended by Financial Advisor Afaq Saeed, Senior Director Finance Munawwar Imam, Senior Director Human Resource Management Jabbar Bhatti, Senior Director Transport & Communication Mohammad Ather, Senior Director E&IP Ghulam Rasool, Director Charged Parking Raza Abbas Rizvi and Director Public Housing Sabah-ul-Islam.

It was informed in a briefing given on the occasion that booking for 273 shops of Shahabuddin Market out of 445 shops was received, whereas, more shops would be auctioned in the next phase and construction work on it would start after the balloting process.

The administrator instructed the officials to start construction work without waiting for the balloting, so that, the people who had booked shops could be assured about the start of work on the project. The shops should be handed over to the actual owners after completing balloting procedure within a week.

He said the old allotees of the market should be given preference in the allotment of shops and then the remaining shops would be auctioned.

Soomro said the delayed project was being completed on preference where the people had invested their money; hence, the project must not be suffered with delay anymore.

He also formed a committee comprising the directors of finance, transport & communication, E&IP, public housing and media management to give suggestions on making the shops and offices of Lines Area Parking Plaza usable.
