KARACHI: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Wednesday handed over eight suspects to police on physical remand till 16th April 2016 over the charges of taking extortion.
The police produced the accused, Syed Arsalan, Farooq, Farhan, Hafeez Khan, Waqas Shahid, Mazhar Iqbal, Mohammad Kaleem and Nasir Khan before the administrative judge of ATC, amid tight security.
The Investigation Officer (IO) submitted that the accused are involved in taking extortion from the owner of Rahat Shirin and hurling threats in case of non-payment.
The IO requested the court to remand the accused in police’s custody as they are required for interrogation.
The court accepted the police’s request and remanded the accused to them till 16th April.
The case FIR 61/ 2016 was registered at Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station under section 384, 385, 386 and 34 of Pakistan Penal Code read with section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997.
