Karachi: Pakistan No. 1 Aqeel Khan completed hat-trick of men’s singles titles after he defeated Mohammad Abid in the final of the 3rd Hassan Tariq Rahim Masters Cup Tennis tournament played at the hard courts of Lahore Gymkhana Club in Lahore on Sunday.
Aqeel proved his dominance in the domestic tennis circuit as he thrashed Mohammad Abid registering a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory. Abid was no match to perfect and powerful ground strokes of Aqeel, as throughout the match he was at the receiving end. Aqeel has also won titles in all previous editions.
In women’s singles final, Pakistan No.2 Sarah Mehboob Khan defeated stubborn Rida Khalid recording a 7-5, 7-5 victory.
Meanwhile, in the boy’s Under-18 final, Muzamil Murtaza overpowered Aman Attique Khan registering a 6-4, 7-6 (2) victory.
Aqeel pocketed Rs 100,000 while Abid took home Rs 50,000. The duo of Aqeel and Abid received Rs 60,000 each for winning men’s double’s event. Runner-up pair of Shehzad Khan and Yasir Khan cashed Rs 30,000 each.
Sarah bagged Rs 50,000 while runner-up Rida received Rs 25,000. Boys Under-18 winner Muzamil received Rs 40,000 and Aman took home Rs 20,000.
