Karachi: Pakistan’s Asad Niaz thrashed Frenchman Christofer Burhen in straight sets in 60-plus first round match on the first day of 23rd Maple Leaf Cement Pakistan ITF Seniors World Ranking Tennis Championship 2015 at Bagh-e-Jinnah Tennis Courts in Lahore on Monday.
Asad found little resistance from the foreigner and recorded a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory and qualified for the second round of the tournament.
In another match of the event, Waqar Nisar overpowered Ikramullah by 6-3, 6-4 score.
In 35-plus singles event, local player Talha Waheed overpowered USA based Naeem Siddique by 6-2, 6-4 score. Meanwhile, Sajjad Rasul defeated Mehboob Waheed Jan by 6-4, 6-2 score.
In third 35 men’s singles’ event’s match of the day, Asher Ali Khan thrashed Mubarak Shah by 6-3, 6-3 score.
In 45-Plus singles event, Adeel Rizwan defeated Ijaz Chaudhary recording a 6-4, 6-4 victory.
Meanwhile, many players failed to turn up on scheduled time of the match and therefore their opponents received walkovers. In 35-Plus event, Wakeel Khan got walkover against Abdul Rasheed and in 45-plus singles event, Fayyaz Nazir got walkover against Aveensh Raghuvanshi. Mohammad Nawaz got walkover against Jehanzeb Khan.
In 55-Plus singles event, Mobin Malik got walkover against Kishore Chaudhry. In 45-Plus age group, Abdul Rehman Khan got walkover against Gurdanshan Singh.
