ASI injured in attack on polio team in Orangi

KARACHI: A Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of police on polio team security was critically injured in firing by the unidentified armed men in Banaras area of Orangi Town on Monday.

However, anti-polio drive was suspended in Orangi Town and SITE area after the firing incident, while the drive was partially disturbed in Malir Town where policemen refused to perform duties after the incident in high-risk UCs of town. However, other polio teams performed their duties in District East of Karachi as per schedule.

According to details, unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle attacked on a polio team in Banaras, Orangi area Karachi and injured a cop namely Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Tabassum. The polio drive was halted along with other immunization activities in the area after the incident.

Spokesman of Karachi Police said the injured ASI was shifted to a private hospital for treatment.
