KARACHI: The wife of detained Pakistan People’s Party leader, Dr Asim Hussain, on Thursday retracted her contempt of court plea against Rangers for allegedly not providing medical facilities to her husband as per Sindh High Court’s (SHC) order.
Headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, SHC bench was hearing the petition filed by Dr Zarren Akhter, wife of former petroleum minister, who moved the court requesting to initiate the contempt of court proceeding against Rangers for flouting its order of providing medical care to her spouse.
In Thursday’s hearing, Abid Zuberi, the petitioner’s counsel stated that medical checkup of his client is being carried out as per apex court’s direction. He maintained that his client has advised him to reverse the plea.
Zuberi stated that Rangers had been not obeying SHC’s order for providing medical care to Dr Asim, therefore they reached the court to initiate contempt of court’s proceeding against them. “But now the purpose of filing the plea has been achieved through Supreme Court’s order so they are withdrawing the plea”, Zuberi stated.
