Karachi: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Monday granted the interim pre-arrest bail to Dr Zulfiqar Mirza and his 14 associates until 30th May for the sum of Rs 100,000 each in a case pertaining to attack on Darakhshan police station.
Former Home Minister Sindh Dr Zulfiqar Mirza arrived at ATC with his counsel under tight security. Lawyers of Dr Mirza requested the court to grant him pre-arrest bail. The ATC judge after hearing arguments granted the pre-arrest bail to Dr Zulfiqar Mirza until 30th May 2015 for the sum of Rs 100,000.
Dr Mirza has been charged of attacking Darakhshan police station during his visit for recording statements in the cases registered against him.
Mirza was booked in the case for allegedly besieged and vandalized at the police station during his appearance at the Darakhshan police station for recording his statement. The case was registered against disowned leader of Pakistan People Party (PPP) after Inspector General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali took serious notice of the matter.
Dr Mirza and his many associates were initially booked in three anti-terrorism cases of attacking a police station in Badin, attempted murder and forced closure of shops. But now he had been nominated over dozens cases in Karachi and Badin. Mirza alleged that these cases were being made against him on the behest of PPP cochairman Asif Zaradri.
