ATC grants bail to Mirza

Karachi: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday granted the bail to Dr Zulfiqar Mirza until 19th May for the sum of Rs 100,000 in three cases.

Former Home Minister Sindh Dr Zulfiqar Mirza arrived at ATC with his supporters and lawyers waving a Pakistani flag, under tight security. All the entry and exit points of ATC were cordoned off and heavy contingents of police were deployed at the routes leading to ATC.

Dr Mirza has been charged of damaging a police station, closing shops forcibly and looting money from two shops during protests in Badin. There is a charge against Dr Mirza and his associates of attacking a police station in Badin, attempted murder and closing shops forcibly.

Lawyers of Dr Mirza prayed to the court that all cases against him were registered on a political basis and requested the court to grant him pre-arrest bail. The ATC judge after hearing arguments granted the bail to Dr Zulfiqar Mirza until 19th May 2015 for the sum of Rs 100,000.

Meanwhile one group of lawyers chanted slogans in favor of Mirza whereas another chanted in favour of Asif Zardari.

This controversy had started on May 3 when Dr Mirza arrived at Badin police station when he allegedly hustled security personnel for trying to arrest and registering an FIR against his supporter.
