ATC grants bail to Mirza’s 46 supporters

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Saturday granted the bail to 46 supporters of former Home Minister Sindh Dr Zulfiqar Mirza until 19th May 2015 in three cases.

The ATC judge approved the pre-arrest bail of Dr Mirza’s 46 supporters until 19th May for the sum of Rs 100,000 each in three cases pertaining to attacking a police station in Badin, attempted murder and closing shops, forcibly.

The proceedings took place inside the chamber of the ATC-I judge, Bashir Ahmed Khoso which lasted for hours. The court approved the pre-arrest bail of Esa, Saqlain, Nadeem Mughal, Ashraf Khoso and others till 19 May and directed them to appear on May 19 along with Dr Mirza.

Former Home Minister Sindh Dr Zulfiqar Mirza was also present on the occasion.

Mirza arrived at ATC along with his supporters and lawyers wearing a blue and red checkered shirt and a pair of jeans, sporting a cowboy hat and stylish goggles.

Earlier on last Saturday ATC had granted Dr Mirza pre-arrest bail in the same cases against the surety bond of Rs 100,000. This controversy had started on May 3 when Dr Mirza arrived at Badin police station when he allegedly manhandled security personnel for trying to arrest and registering an FIR against his supporter.

Talking to media outside the court, Mirza said that he is not fighting for himself or his family but rather it is the cause of Pakistan.

Dr Mirza alleged that PPPP cochairman Asif Ali Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur were trying to harm him, but he would not succumb to their tactics.

Former Home Minister alleged that police was tasked by the provincial government to arrest him and inject him a dose of some lethal drug. “They had planned to show my death as a heart attack incident”.
