KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Rauf Akhtar Farooqui while taking strict notice of the dumping of garbage inside Aziz Bhatti Park and burning of this household trash, has directed the director general parks & horticulture Tahir Jamil Durrani to put immediate ban on the dumping of garbage in the park’s lake and its burning.
He warned that the services of relevant officer would be suspended in case of receipt of further complain about this. On an unscheduled visit of Aziz Bhatti Park, he inspected the different parts of park and instructed that improvement plan should be worked out for this park under public private partnership.
In a briefing to Administrator Karachi, it was informed that only eight acres land of this park out of total 28 acres, was available for visitors and the huge central lake was used as dumping yard for garbage and domestic waste.
The administrator said the citizens of Karachi wanted this old park to be restored into its original condition, therefore, complete planning for this must be done and special attention be given to this recreation centre of the city.
He said the women and senior citizens used this facility for walk and recreation and they should be given more facilities in this park.
The administrator said KMC would protect every inch of its under control parks and recreation centres. He directed DG Parks to submit suggestions for improvement of this park in the next budget and also formulate a comprehensive strategy for working with the private sector so that the citizens could be provided with better recreation facilities.
