Blue Lines BRT route extended

KARACHI: Administrator Karachi Saqib Ahmed Soomro has approved extension of Blue Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system project from Bahria Town to Lucky Cement Factory which was formerly approved from Bahria Town to Merewether Tower. The Sindh government had already endorsed this plan through a letter on 24th April.

According to details the Karachi Transport Improvement Project was completed by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) with the help of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in December 2012 under which KMC had given approval of the suggested transport plan for Karachi through a resolution on 9th January 2014.

The approval KTI Plan consists of BRT corridors and BRT 6 Blue Line, a network of 190km, whereas the Mass Transit System 2 had covered two corridors for Blue and Brown line. JICA had in its pre-feasibility report suggested shifting of BRT Blue Line System in the Mass Transit Rapid Transport System.

In order to make this system successful the presently approved alignment for BRT Blue Line which was from Tower to Bahria Town was now extended to the industrial area, general area Lucky Cement Factory.

The administrator Karachi has while exercising his powers conferred on him by the Sind government through the Notification No SOA/LG/4(37)/2011 dated 7th December 2011 gave approval of the above plan.
