Karachi: Pakistani cueist Mohammad Asif returned from Sofia: Bulgaria in December 2012 along with IBSF World Snooker Championship title amid celebrations however even after 16 months the world champion is yet to receive the cash reward he is entitled to as per sports policy of Pakistan.
“Even after sixteen months have passed: Asif is yet to receive the reward from Pakistan Sports Board and Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) he is entitled to for winning the top international snooker event title: ” Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) President Alamgir Sheikh said.
“Asif later also won one more title for Pakistan when he clinched Asian 6-Red Snooker title in 2013 at Doha: Qatar. He went on to win World Snooker Team Title in Ireland along with compatriot Muhammad Sajjad: ” he added.
“Muhammad Sajjad who attained third position following his bronze medal winning run in the IBSF World Snooker Championship in 2013 in Latvia is also entitled for the cash reward as per the Sports Policy of Pakistan: ” Alamgir said.
“This delay in cash rewards is very deplorable. It will have discouraging effects on these two players and also to other players who want to bring glory for the country after performing well in international tournaments: ” he added.
“In spite of repeated requests and personal meetings with the PSB officials: Minister Sports: Secretary Sports IPC and assurances: the players are still awaiting their cash rewards. Furthermore: the players also deserve the Pride of Performance Award which the association had twice recommended to the Presidency in 2013 and 2014: ” Alamgir said.
“We want to appeal to the Honorable Prime Minister of Pakistan to kindly intervene and order the release of the cash rewards to our players and also recognize their achievements for the country by bestowing the Pride of Performance Awards to Muhammad Asif and also to Muhammad Sajjad for their invaluable achievements for the country: ” he concluded.
